Alongside Paul M., he is alleged to have arranged instruction courses where radical left activists trained in fighting methods and simulated violent actions. At depots overseen by Paul M, the group allegedly accumulated tools, irritant sprays, disguises and mobile phones.

Previous convictions and global responses

Another militant previously active with the organization, Lina E, became a symbolic figure within some far-left activist circles following her 2023 guilty verdict for targeting presumed far-right targets.

The US designation makes group members ineligible to enter the US, freezes any assets they may have within the world’s largest economy and makes it illegal offering assistance to them.

The German right-wing AfD party welcomed the US decision and urged the German administration to follow suit. In contrast, the German foreign ministry merely commented it had “taken note” of the American classification.

“The danger from the [Antifa Ost] group has recently decreased significantly. Key leaders and most aggressive participants have already been convicted or are in custody.”
